New thinking about policy may be needed in order to protect the human rights of vulnerable communities and prevent global warming from causing irreversible harm to humanity and the earth's natural systems. Just as science has not yet discovered every technology that could help reduce the threat of climate change, international and national decision-makers have not yet explored every promising policy idea. We need to broaden the policy debate to identify policies that could gain the necessary political support to protect all the world's communities.
A broad range of activities contribute to and are affected by global climate change, providing clear opportunity for policy innovation. Perhaps even more important, there are a range of policy approaches that may prove to be more economically efficient and environmentally effective than those currently under consideration - such as action targets, reverse auctions, compliance mechanisms, and expedited decision-making processes to respond to advances in climate science.
CLPP works to identify, analyze, and promote policy ideas and approaches that can most effectively avert the climate crisis.
