The problem of global warming seems to be of concern to most people but especially to scientists who are constantly researching and investigating what can be done to reduce the warming of the earth.

All is not doom and gloom, though, as scientists have found that the oceans are trapping heat more than 300 meters down and creating what is essentially a hiatus period of warming for the earth. Studies by researchers in the United States and Australia have found that the earth is given a break from the rise in temperatures worldwide, or perhaps a slight decrease in global warming, by the storage of heat in the depths of the oceans.

Logically, when there is a warming of the earth, temperatures should rise in something of a steady upward trend. According to the research data, the period from 2000 to 2009 was the single warmest decade on record. Yet, the warmest year recorded to date has been in 1998. Since that year, even though the greenhouse gas emissions continued to rise steadily in the past decade, scientists have discovered that air temperature did not climb as expected. This discrepancy in the data prompted the researchers to go looking for the “missing” energy as facts proved that energy was being released according to satellite measurements tracking the release of energy from the earth’s atmosphere.

Putting all the info into future climate-based simulations, the researchers discovered that, although over an extended period of time the global temperature did and would continue to rise, there were brief periods when the temperatures did flatten out. The energy had to be somewhere and since it was not found in the atmosphere, scientists eventually theorized that the lost heat was being taken in and essentially stored by the deep, cold oceans.
