Our Mission
Climate Law & Policy Project strives to prevent the impacts of global warming from causing irreversible harm to humanity and the earth's natural systems.
We work to:
- Strengthen Emissions Targets – Recent science shows that global warming is occurring faster, with more severe impacts, than anticipated. In response, we advocate more ambitious targets for emissions reductions, even if this means reducing greenhouse gas concentrations below current levels.
- Protect the Human Rights of Vulnerable Communities – By threatening the lives, health, property, culture, and means of subsistence of indigenous and other vulnerable communities, global warming violates their fundamental human rights. We seek to protect these rights by helping vulnerable communities advocate for stronger targets, adaptation assistance, and inclusion in policy processes at all levels of government.
- Promote New Policy Approaches – Just as we are certain science has not discovered every technology that could help reduce the threat of global warming, we believe that decision makers have not explored every promising policy idea. We will work to identify, analyze and promote new strategies for averting global warming.
